About

Karina Shumyatskaya (shoom-yacht-sky-ah) joined MDR LAW LLC in 2026. Before joining the firm, Karina worked at several prominent Chicago-area defense firms, where she defended clients in high-exposure medical malpractice and premises liability cases. Now on the Plaintiff's side, she is able to leverage her past experiences and deep knowledge of the defense in the service of her clients at MDR. 

During law school, Karina served as captain of the mock trial team, where she was named a regional champion of the AAJ Student Trial Advocacy Competition and a quarterfinalist in the CACJ National Criminal Trial Advocacy Competition. Upon graduation, she received membership in the Order of Barristers.

Karina was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and grew up in Highland Park, Illinois. She resides in Chicago, where she enjoys walks along the lakefront and exploring the culinary scene with family and friends. Karina is fluent in Russian.
